THE HARDEST DEMOLITION IS UNDER THE BUILDING.
Below ground, everything works against conventional demolition. There's no crane path and no room to swing. An excavator can't get down the ramp — and if it could, diesel plant can't run in an unventilated basement. The building above usually has to stay standing, stay serviced and often stay occupied while the work happens underneath it. That's why basement demolition defeats general demolishers: it isn't a bulk-machinery job, it's a controlled breaking and cutting job in the tightest space on site.
It's exactly what our kit was bought for. The Husqvarna DXR 305 is 780 mm wide — it drives down carpark ramps, through standard doorways and into lift lobbies under its own power, or gets craned through a slab opening where there's no ramp. It takes 27 kW of breaking power below ground while the operator runs it by remote from up to 300 m away, outside the dust and drop zones. Electric drive means zero exhaust fumes in enclosed levels — the difference between a compliant basement programme and one that can't run at all.
Where the scope runs past breaking — thick transfer slabs, footings, post-tensioned sections or elements hard against retention walls — we pair the robot with diamond wire sawing and floor and wall sawing: low-vibration cuts that drop concrete in craneable, removable pieces instead of hammering next to structure that has to stay.
Basement demolition in Brisbane is the bread and butter of this service — carpark levels and plant rooms under CBD towers, lift pits and shafts in occupied commercial buildings, machine bases and cellars in older stock being refurbished. We run the same crews and the same robot for robotic demolition across Brisbane, the Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast, Ipswich, Toowoomba and all of regional Queensland.
Every basement job runs on full SWMS, mapped exclusion zones and an engineered sequence agreed before the machine goes down the ramp.
